The Sims 4 was launched in September 2014 and brought new social features, emotionally driven activities, a streamlined build mode etc., and until then, the developers have released patches, expansion packs, game packs, stuff packs and DLCs. Now, the fans are eagerly awaiting the next installment, but the news is not favorable, because according to rumors, The Sims 5 won’t be released before 2019.
Even The Sims 4 producer, Grant Rodiek, said that the chances of releasing The Sims 5 in the near future are low, and he answered fans’ questions on forums that the developers are not working on the sequel. The fate of The Sims 5 depends on The Sims 4’s success, which means that if the current game isn’t appreciated by the players and doesn’t have the desired effect, then the franchise will be ended.
The gamers became irritated by Grant’s negative comments and accused him that he’s acting as a marketer, but he replied and said that “For one, we just recently launched this new forum. Secondly, before the game launched I wasn’t able to discuss everything as openly as I’m able to do now”.
At this point, EA and Maxis are working on new expansion packs and they want to add microtransactions, but it’s not sure if these changes will keep the franchise alive. Grant has assured the players that he will be supporting the community and encouraged them to send feedback and inform him about bugs they find in the game. He also said that “we’re trying to sell copies and that’s how we keep our job. But, I’m not here dropping sales links and such. Hopefully me being here improves your feelings towards the game. If it doesn’t? That’s fine too, but I’m not doing anything nefarious here.”
However, the Rodiek’s post has been deleted, raising concerns over the future of The Sims 5.
